May 26th - Arborvitae

Not much planned for the holiday, so i decided to run out to one of the local big nurseries I hadn't been to yet to see if I could find the shrubs I was looking for. I though I wanted Golden Globe arborvitae, but when I saw what they had, I realized I really was looking for Rheingolds. The golden globe was a greeny-yellow gold, and the rheingold was a yellow-gold with bronze-brown tips. Much more striking I think. I picked up 3, but I only had the bed ready for one- the one right by the front step in the plan. So that is planted now, and I will be waiting till the fall to plant the other two, since I need to get at least one of the dwarf blue spruce ready to plant first so I can design the bed around them both and make sure the layout is right. So now our planted plant total is up to 6- 3 dwarf Alberta spruce, one on either side of the garage and one at the far corner of the house by the living room, one rheingold arborviate by the front steps, one gold mop falsecypress (I think?) by the lamppost, and one dwarf Korean lilac shrub in the back by the morning room.

May 16th - New plant

I just put in the first lilac shrub in the back- Friday was so beautiful I needed to get out and do some work..

And the plan (roughly) for the back. My first file got corrupted through my landscaping program, so I tried to recreate it and I don't think is exactly right- it looks a little too regular and blocky to me. Close though..

May 9th, 2008 - LANDSCAPING!!

OK, maybe 'landscaping' is a little too grandiose of a word for the two lonely little 3-foot high dwarf Alberta Spruce trees I planted this morning, but I am still really proud of them!!! :) Providing they live through the summer, that is..

So the poor little trees don't look quite so pathetic, I will tell you I HAVE A PLAN!!! *evil laugh* This is what I am hoping to do as base landscaping for the front. Bit by bit of course, and I may change my mind as I go along..

May 4th, 2008 - Treelawn trees go in

Our homeowners' association decided to purchase and plant Trinity pear trees in all the tree lawns. The street does look a lot nicer as you drive down and see all the trees instead of all the bare tree lawns I think..
